Summer has melted the snows. City contractors are on board. Construction is rolling forward for the Dog River Pipeline Replacement project in Mt. Hood National Forest. Once complete, the project will improve reliability of the City’s water system by replacing 3.5 miles of aging wooden pipeline with a new pipeline built to last 100 years or more.

A City contractor is currently clearing trees and brush from the pipeline corridor. Construction of the pipeline is expected to start later in July 2022. The construction work is planned over two seasons to allow for mountain weather.

During construction, Forest Road 1700-014 will be closed to public use. There will be increased truck traffic on Forest Road 4400 near Brooks Meadow. The City has posted trail signs to alert recreation users of work crews and equipment in the project area. Trails are expected to remain open.

The City will work with key project partners at the Forest Service to share updates with interested community members. A project map, milestone schedule, FAQs, and other materials are available on the project webpage: thedalles.org/dogriverpipeline.
