City Appointments to Committees and Commissions are the responsibility of the Mayor of The City of The Dalles.  The City Council concurs with the appointments through adoption of a resolution.

The City Clerk updates the roster and facilitates filling openings.

Beautification & Tree Committee

The City of The Dalles Beautification & Tree Committee was established in 2019 by the Mayor.  The Committee consists of seven to nine members, that are appointed by the Mayor.

The mission of the Beautification  & Tree Committee is “To promote and honor our rich cultural history, share and enhance the beauty of our community, and strengthen communal pride in our public spaces through citizen engagement, advocacy, recognition, and partnerships."

The Beautification Committee meets on the first and third  Monday of each month, at 4:00 p.m. with the exception of holidays.  All meetings are available to attend via Zoom.  The login information in on each agenda.

The Committee spearheaded or assisted with the following projects:

  • Instituting a Residential Tree Grant Program
  • Tree plantings at all local elementary schools
  • Rehabilitation of the Vogt Fountain and Rose Garden
  • Clean up and bark mulch at City Park Rose Garden
  • Reestablished Beautification Award.  Check out the Criteria here.
  • Established Holiday Decoration Contest
  • Stop The Drop Campaign - including partnering with Gorge Toyota for Monthly Cleanups, March through October.
  • Welcome signs on west and east end of The Dalles - including lighting for the sign at the west end of the roundabout
  • Beautifying triangles within the City
  • Support of/working with other entities for the greater good and beautification of The Dalles  
City Budget Committee
The City Budget Committee is a five citizen member committee that meets with the City Council to review, make adjustments and approve the proposed annual budget for the City of The Dalles.

The Budget then is forwarded to the City Council for final adoption in June.  

The Budget Committee Meets once a year, generally the first week of May.  The process historically takes about two days, however it can take as long as needed.
Columbia Gorge Regional Airport Board
The Columbia Regional Airport Board is a seven member citizen Board, with three appointments from the City of The Dalles; one  City Councilor; and three appointments from Klickitat County. The Board meets on the third  Tuesday  of each month at 8 a.m.

The Airport is located across the Columbia in Dallesport, WA 

The City of The Dalles and Klickitat County serve as co-sponsor's of the airport.  This partnership has resulted in numerous multi-million dollar projects focused on improving airport safety and infrastructure. Fort Dalles Museum Commission
The Fort Dalles Museum Commission is a seven member commission, made of  three City appointments and four Wasco County appointments.

The Fort Dalles Museum Commission meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m.

Historic Landmarks Commission
The Historic Landmarks Commission is a five member citizen Commission appointed by the Mayor.

The Historic Landmarks Commission  meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m.

Planning Commission
The Dalles Planning Commission is a seven member Commission appointed by the Mayor.

The Planning Commission meets , as needed on the first and third Thursdays of every month at 5:30 p.m.

Quality Life Intergovernmental Agency
QualityLife Intergovernmental Agency (QLife) is a collaborative effort of public entities in The Dalles, Oregon, that began in 2002, who created a 17-mile fiber optic loop through the city. The goal is to enhance the region's economic development efforts with a reliable, cost effective, open access link to the Bonneville Power Administration's fiber, which runs through The Dalles.

The City of The Dalles was the managing partner until 2016. Wasco County is the current managing partner.

The Board consists of five member, two appointed by the City, two appointed by the County, and one appointed by the board.

QLife Board meets the fourth Thursday at noon.

Traffic Safety Commission

The Traffic Safety Commission was established in 1973 by the Mayor through Ordinance 909.  The Commission consists of seven members, that are appointed by the Mayor.

The Dalles Municipal Code Chapter 1.02 Traffic Safety Commission outlines operation and scope of the Commission.

The Traffic Safety Commission meets on the third Wednesdays of each month, at 7:00 a.m.

When available, in person meetings are held at The Dalles Public Works Department 1215 W 1st Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.  All meetings are available to attend via Zoom.  The login information is on each agenda.

The Dalles Wasco County Library
The Dalles Wasco County Library is a Library District, with Libraries in The Dalles, Dufur and Maupin.

The Dalles Wasco County Library Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at various locations, at 4 p.m.

Urban Renewal Agency Board

The Urban Renewal Agency Board was created by a group of citizens and adopted by the City Council with General Ordinance No. 90-1106.  The current configuration of the Board  was updated in  2016 with General Ordinance No. 16-1346.

The nine member board consists of one representative from each of the following agencies:
Northern Wasco County Parks & Recreation
Wasco County
Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue
Port of The Dalles

Three members of City Council, and two citizen members.  The citizen members are appointed by the Mayor.

The Urban Renewal Agency Board Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm,  as needed.

Urban Renewal Agency Budget Committee
The Urban Renewal Agency Budget committee consists of nine citizen member appointed by the Mayor.

The Budget Committee joins the Urban Renewal Board generally in mid April to review the proposed budget, approve the budget and refer it to the Agency for adoption.
