HR FAQs

How do I apply for a job?

Click on the link, complete a user account then select the position you would like to apply for.  On the right side of the page, fill in the information under “Apply Now.”  Review the Applicant Information Use Policy, check the agree box and click “Apply for this Position.”  When promoted to upload your resume, upload your resume and any other documents you feel enhance your candidacy.  Complete the application process.  Note: You may be sent an email requesting you complete the application process depending on what platform you apply from.  Be sure to regularly check your spam/junk mail when applying for jobs.

How do I file a claim for damages?

Click the link for the claim form.  If the claim involves a City utility, you should also contact Public Works to ensure the utility is aware of the issue and so they can shut off the water if needed.

What is the process to become a Police Officer?

This process can take several weeks to complete.  Be patient!  To apply to become a Police Officer you will need passing test scores from another Department or National Testing Network “Frontline National Testing” within the last 12 months.  If you have passing test scores from another Department, attach them to your application.  If you are testing through National Testing Network (NTN), you will select The Dalles Police Department to receive your test results.  Take all tests.  Then apply for an open recruitment on the City website.  Human Resources will attached your NTN scores to your application.

If selected for an interview, you will be contacted by the Police Department.  Following an interview, if you are selected you will be sent a tentative job offer, consent to background investigation form and statement of personal history form.  Complete these forms and return to the Police Department.  You will be scheduled for a medical evaluation and psychological exam.

Provided the background and exams come back favorable, you will be scheduled a Swearing-In Ceremony.  You are encouraged to bring family to this event.  At this point you will be provided a uniform and work schedule.  You will also be scheduled for an Academy Class if you are an entry level officer.
